Contouring is a technique that is used to enhance your natural face shape by creating effects of shadow and light. Everyoneβs contour is going to be different as we all have different bone structures. While most people may reach for a powder bronzer to finish their look with some contour, weβre here to show you how quick and easy it is to do a little bit of contouring on your face using a light and dark shade of our Lava Art Compact Cushion Foundation.
To contour using our Compact Cushions, youβll need to get yourself a shade 3-5 shades darker than your usual shade (depending on how deep you want your contour). For example, if your normal shade is a 25, then you could look at using a shade number 28-30 for your contour.
Youβll want to start off your makeup, like you would any other day - with your base! Take your normal compact cushion colour and dab it across your face using the application puff until you get your desired coverage. Now itβs time to get out that darker shade and letβs contour!
The whole point of contouring is to enhance the natural shape of your face while giving you dimension. Some of the areas we like to focus on with our contour are our cheekbones, nose and along the jawline. Pop out the applicator that came with your darker shade compact and fold it in half so that itβs in a fluted shape. Tap the applicator into the cushion and starting with your nose, dab the darker colour down either side of your nose. These lines are what is going to give the illusion of a slimmer nose.
Now grab your beauty blender and just lightly tap the darker colour back into your foundation. You want to do this gradually so that you're not blending it in completely, but rather leaving a little bit of a colour differentiation which is exactly whatβs proving that contouring effect. Itβs also important to dab at your contoured lines and not drag the product, so youβre not moving the darker colour where you donβt want it to be!
Next move onto your cheekbones. Similar to before, fold the applicator in half and dab it on your face from your ear to the apple of your cheek. If youβre having trouble finding your cheekbones, suck in your cheeks! Reload your applicator with the product, and now dab it along the edge of your jawline before grabbing your beauty blender and blending it all out. Blend, baby, blend!
Youβll be left with a face thatβs full of dimension and shade achieving that perfectly contoured look. Now itβs time to finish your makeup and donβt forget to set your face! Check out ourΒ Easy, Everyday makeup lookΒ if youβre looking for some inspo.
